At the end of this month Plums Lingerie is going to be 5 years old! Mumsie and I are thrilled to have made it this far and are grateful to all our wonderful customers, suppliers and friends. To say a massive thank you August is going to be full of treats to show our appreciation.
We are starting off by holding a party in the boutique with a fashion show, cupcakes and bubbles!

It’s awards season in the lingerie world and I am busying myself with the Drapers entry for Lingerie Boutique of the Year, of which we reached the finals last year, and the Underlines Awards which we have been nominated for. But there is a new kid on the awards block, Lingerie Insight magazine has launched the UK Lingerie Awards. The difference with these awards are they are nominated by you. You can nominate the your favourite lingerie and swimwear brands and your favourite places you like to buy your lingerie. Mumsie and I are hoping that our lovely customers wink wink, would nominate us for the Independent Retailer Award.
This award would be super special because it means we are giving the best service to our customers and making lingerie shopping a pleasure rather than a trauma. If you would like to vote for us just click here. Voting closes 1st July. If we get to the finals I might even let Mumsie out for the awards ceremony!

Avert Your Eyes, Miss Kitty Plum is Changing

It is more accurate but less titivating to say the blog is changing. I am going to expand the topics covered to anything lingerie related that take my fancy. This new found freedom will allow me to blog about more than the happenings at Plums Lingerie, which although fascinating can be sometimes a little uninspiring.
But do not despair the blog will still be focussed on the lingerie passions of Miss Kitty so if you love your lingerie you are still in right place.
Introducing Lise Charmel
Wednesday, October 13th, 2010We don’t often introduce new designers to Plums Lingerie but when we do they are something special. Lise Charmel is a fine French lingerie brand. They combine seductive guipure lace with beautiful shaped bras and a myriad of different styles of briefs. Lise Charmel produces bras up to an E cup. One f the reaons we decided on Lise Charmel is the range of cinches and suspenders belt that are part of the collection. It seems that despite the hype around the resurgence of classic style lingerie fewer collections feature suspender belts. In the latest collection Soir de Venise a retro brief is included, big pants have never been so sexy! What do you think? Something for the Christmas list?

Davina Ditches Grey Undies

Davina McCall has revealed she has had revamped her lingerie drawer after her husband complained that her undies were too grey and “comfy”.
She admitted she was “offended” by TV host Matthew Robertson’s comments at first – but then realised he was right.
The Big Brother presenter, 42, told Hello! magazine that she went to a lingerie website immediately to stock up on new gear. “The other day he lodged a complaint that my underwear drawer had been taken over by neutral, comfy stuff th
at had somehow gone a bit grey, and he said ‘Please will you buy some nice stuff?’”
As result she treated herself to a selection of “just sweet, happy colours” but avoided going “mega fancy”.
Davina said: “Husband happy. And you know what? I wouldn’t have done it if he hadn’t complained. First of all I felt a bit offended, and then I thought ‘You know what? He’s right’.”

If the excitement of reaching the regional finals of the HSBC Start Up Stars award wasn’t already enough to get us reaching for the bubbles we have now reached the finals of the Drapers Magazine Lingerie Retailer of the Year Award! We will be visited soon by some lovely people from Drapers to see how we do things and have a bit of chat. Will have to get Mumsie to start behaving herself just in case they send mystery shoppers.
The winner of the award is announced at a swanky dinner in November so keep your fingers crossed for us as we are up against some stiff competition!

From Russia with Love – Review of the New Marie Collection

The upcoming collection from Marie Jo takes inspiration from exotic Russia combining opulent colours with luxurious fabrics. The Marie Jo Lara epitomises this collection with a wide range of different bra styles that highlight the delicate embroidery and tulle. This stunning story is available in black, ivory and the new red of the season fiesta red. There is a new multiway smooth cup bra available up to an F Cup bra. It is also a collection that features briefs for every taste, including the increasingly popular Italian briefs with the sheer back panel and hotpants, a new style being introduced. Marie Jo Lara is very pretty and delicate, perfect as bridal lingerie in the ivory or as a fine lingerie for a seductive evening.If you love a bit of colour for the when the nights get longer the Marie Jo Tonya is a real treat. Rich opulent amethyst with golden flowers or you could choose the black with emerald embroidery. The two key styles are the demi padded balcony bra and the push up bra, unfortunately they are only available up to a D cup. For all you E cup ladies you will have to choose between the full cup bra and the smooth cup padded bra. I think the ladies from Plums Lingerie will love this range it has such a luxury feel.
Marie Jo Irina Basque
As much as the Marie Jo Tonya exudes warmth the stunning Irina evokes the chilled climate of Russia with it’s gorgeous sapphire blue and the natural with black embroidery. The pencil thin embroidery drawn on to the fabric is a graphic calligraphy. The embroidery is shown off beautifully on the balcony bra that has a vertical seam. This range will also prove to be popular as it has a suspender belt as part of the story. There is also a basque but it is only available in natural, the sapphire blue would have been extremely striking.
Marie Jo Jane in Red
In every Marie Jo lingerie collection there is a printed story. These are designed with the young Marie Jo woman in mind however we often find at Plums Lingerie that they aren’t always very popular.This season it is the Masha in a black with pretty pinky flowers and a pagoda blue. It is only a small story with only 3 different styles of bras. It is fun and flirty with the print inspired by the matryoshka dolls. Marie Jo has taken popular ranges from last season and brought them into winter with rich sumptuous tones. The Marie Jo Cate has been coloured in midnight blues and greys which make the embroidered flowers pop out like little stars. If you like theses tones then you will love the gorgeous nori colour of the Camille. This was a very popular range in the summer and this fashionable tone will ensure plenty of ladies will add it to the lingerie drawer.
Last season the delightful Marie Jo Jane was made a permanent addition and this winter they have brought out a gorgeous wine red which is very flattering against so many different skin tones and is a perfect alternative to the stronger scarlet tones. The other story that has benefited from a re-colouring is the eternally popular Marie Jo Avero. The chocolate brown is a warm tone but browns can be an acquired taste and with the resurgent popularity of navy blue it seems to have lost its place as the first choice alternative to black.

Wooo Hooo! Plums Lingerie Reaches Regional Final of HSBC Start Up Stars Award

Had some rather exciting news at Plums Lingerie that has had Mumsie and I all of a flutter. We have been selected as a regional finalist for the HSBC Start Up Stars Award.
The awards celebrate the achievements of young entreprenuerial businesses throughout the UK and Plums Lingerie has reached the final 60. Next step is to see if we win the regional section to be put forward to the final. the winner will be announced at a swanky do at the Dorchester Hotel in London on th 18th October.
It’s so exciting to reach this stage and it’s great to find that we must be doing something right.
