20061108-Rita.Hayworth.HQ.01 Welcome to this weeks summary of lingerie chat! The topic of this week’s lingerie chat was all about nightwear. This post is a summary of everything we chatted about:

Q1. "What would you define as nightwear?"

There were quite a variety of answers here…

@copygeniusgirl began, "Nightgowns, pajamas, oversized t-shirts. I can never find anything in the first two categories that fit though!"

@LibertyImages said, "Nightgowns, supportive camis."

@campbellkate said, "Anything I feel sheepish going out in to pick up the newspaper."

@LingerieDiva said, "Anything that you sleep in, not just wear for fun & then take off"

Gents Glossary For Lingerie

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

Don’t know your bustier from your babydoll then check out the  Plums Lingerie Gents’ Glossary.

Bras From brassiere comes the slang term for a supportive breast covering that ‘holds ‘em up’.  Bras have become a favourite undergarment for women to wear every day.  Here are several bra styles:

Balcony/Balconette: A bra with a less coverage that lifts the breasts up and out, such as a shelf.

Plunge: A plunge bra brings the breasts together for a deep cleavage effect. Often plunge bras are padded to give a little extra oomph.

Padded: If her boobs are smaller, then a padded bra will add support and cup size for a fuller appearance.

Push-up: Provide lift.  As the name suggests, this bra pushes the breasts up and out for a curvy look.

Full Cup: Big breasted women need a full cup to support those big guns.  The straps are usually wider and the bra features more hooks in the back.

Briefs: Basically, this is underwear. Here are several styles:

Bikini Briefs: These are conservative and cover up more of the front and backside.  To make them more exciting, find bikini briefs with lace, satin or bright prints.

G-String: This scandalous piece of cloth is just a string that barely covers up the front and has no more than a string in the back. Rarely the safest choice when gift buying.

Thong: Like the G-String, except it has a slightly wider stretch of cloth around the side and the back.

Shorts: Often called boy shorts, these little briefs sit low below her waist and look like mini men’s underwear, except sexier.

Basque: The French started this one. These are a combination between a bra and a corset, underwired to support the bust and boned down the torso. At the bottom there are attachments for stockings. IF you do buy one don’t forget to include a pair of stockings.

Bustier: Form-fitting like a basque, but shorter and without attachments for stockings.

Nightgowns: Come in a variety on styles and lengths.

Chemise: Quite simply, this is a one-piece ladies undergarment, often called a slip.

Babydoll: A short nightgown that is loose from under the bust and either has soft or underwire cups for the bust.

Negligee: A nightgown, which is a loose-fitting dress meant to be worn in the bedroom or generally prancing around like Rita Hayworth or some other Hollywood icon.

Gown: A full length nightgown usually more structured than a negligee. Available in everything from see-through to slinky.

Robe: Meant to be worn as a cover up over lingerie or nothing at all!

Dressing gown: This is generally a modest robe or longer gown meant to cover up with. All too frequently seen in towelling, please note anything in towelling can not be regarded as an appropriate gift for your gorgeous beloved.

Nikki, Mumsie and Roy Post Shopping

Nikki, Mumsie and Roy - Post Shopping

No sooner has summer got into full swing it’s time to go shopping for next year.  So Mumsie and I packed our bags and headed to the big smoke.  This time it was swimwear, nightwear and very excitingly a new lingerie supplier.

First off we met with Roy from Alba who provide us with the fantastic Gideon Oberson and Gottex swimwear and Marjolaine nightwear.  After two 1/2 hours of us driving the poor man to distraction and having the delightful model Nikki try on a pethora of different bikini’s, swimsuits and silk nighties we came up with our order.  The first delivery of swimwear will dropping on our doorstep before Christmas.  Perfect if you are going away for a bit of winter sun.

Then it was back to the hotel to meet with the lovely Carole from Simone Perele to show us the new collection for next summer.  Lots of lovely pinks and lavenders, so pretty and fresh.  Good news for fans of Nina and Romance as they are both coming in new colours.  It’s always a pleasure hearing from Carole, we were her first new business when she became MD of Simone Perele and it’s fantastic to hear how well they are doing.

The final appointment of the day was to see if we were going to add a new brand to our little boutique.  The stunning Lise Charmel will soon be winging it’s way to us.  It’s a stunningly sexy range with fabulous waspies and suspender belts.  It will definitely be on my Christmas list.  Would love to know what you think.  As soon as I have all the images I will get them posted.

Keeping Cool on Hot Summer Nights

Marjolaine Soie Unie chemise

Marjolaine Soie Unie chemise

The glorious summer weather we are having is wonderful but  the sticky hot nights can make it difficult to sleep.  Little silk nighties, chemises or negligees are perfect for keeping cool on these evenings.  One of the great properties of silk is that it keeps you cool in the heat and warm in the cold because of its absorbency.   Not only will you be able look fabulous when you retire for the evening you will sleep in comfort.

A lot of people are put off silk thinking that it is difficult to care for.  Silk can often be put in the washing machine on a cool delicate wash and drip dried.  Alternatively it can be given a rinse in cool water with a little detergent.  Once it is dry a quick iron on the low setting and you are set for bed!
