Prima Donna Duchess

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

This summer Prima Donna has released a new line called Duchess. A combination of subtle glossy and matt materials makes Duchess a soft spot for those who love a little vintage chic. The luxury full cup bra is sewn from three sections to support, centre and lift your breasts optimally. We love both shades here at Plums. The light and refined Crystal is a temptation for brides with a fuller bust, whereas the Smokey Night is a great alternative to black. (more…)

Lingerie Chat 2nd August – Lingerie Drawer Essentials

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

Welcome to this weeks summary of lingerie chat! The topic of this week’s lingerie chat was all about lingerie essentials! This post is a summary of everything we chatted about:

The primary question asked was, "What is the top lingerie essential you own?"

@PS_Lingerie said, "If we are including accessories our biggest seller by far is tape, tape and more tape…" This was to keep bras from showing and to tape gaps closed,’making’ bras for barely there dresses, mending hems.. @piperewan noted that this sounded a bit blasphemous to her as a seamstress, but @PS_Lingerie said, "It’s a (very) short term (& cheap) fix – much better to have support built in dress :) "

@MagnifiqueBras said, "nude color matching bra & panties so I can wear them with many things… & then of course darker bra & panties for my dark clothes. I ♥ matching sets." @Plums Lingerie agreed that nudes hues were useful, while @AABigHeart said, "I love matching sets too, but they quite a rare delicacy in an AA-cup size."

Top 3 Tips For The Perfect T-Shirt Bra: Choose The Right Bra For You.

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

T-Shirt Bra : Marie Jo Avero Bra A bra for all seasons, the T-shirt bra can be worn all year round. But it is in the summer when we are not hiding under layers of knits that it’s more important than ever to make sure you’ve picked the right T-shirt bra for you. Here are my top three tips for picking a T-shirt bra.

1. Pick A Correctly Fitting Bra

With a tightly fitting little white T-shirt there is no room for any mistakes when it comes to the fit of your bra. A snug fitting T-shirt can be unforgiving of any lumps and bumps and bulges. Make sure the bra gives you a good shape, and is comfortable. If in doubt, try on in front of the mirror, stand sideways and puff out your chest to see whether you have any unsightly bulges. Also try leaning forward to make sure you don’t fall out. You may feel a bit silly but it’s a quick way of telling if you are going to feel comfortable.

Santa Baby… Tips to get the perfect gift (for you)

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Purple GiftI recently asked a question on the Plums Lingerie Facebook page. Did you ever ask your other half to surprise you with the present they bought and what did you get? Answers ranged from a blender to a box of cakes.  I still laugh at the thought of seeing Mumsie’s face open a big shiny gold box to find a printer one Christmas. She could barely turn on the PC!

The lesson I think a few of us took away is, don’t ask for a surprise when really you want a gold bracelet.  I feel for the gents, the look of panic when they are in Plums looking for the perfect gift but have been given no clue at all, or in quite a few cases they haven’t picked up one of the many subtle hints that began in September.

Some guys find this present buying easy but even they know they are in the minority.  And ladies, if you haven’t already discovered, subtlety doesn’t often work. Ladies bring in their husbands and boyfriends to Plums hoping to guide them gently by pointing out lingerie and nightwear they like.  The men will usually have one of the following reactions.

1.      Sit down, pick up a magazine and proceed to miss all the hints that could make his present buying so simple.

2.      Follow her around, looking a bit fidgety, wondering what he is doing there and if he can dive out across the road to the outdoor adventure shop.

3.      Pay close attention, mentally noting every style, colour and designer she likes. (No not really, you didn’t believe me for a second did you!)

On behalf of the bewildered out there I implore you make it easy for them.  I know you probably have a million presents to buy and they only have one but for your own sake take a look at my tips to getting the gift you want.

1.      Do a cute letter to Santa. If you have kids do it around the same time as they do theirs. If you do a selection of things you like it will still be a bit of a surprise.

2.      Use Facebook like buttons. We have put Like buttons all over the Plums Lingerie site. When you click on them what you like shows up in your news feed.  Obviously will only work if you both use Facebook.

3.     Tell him what shop to go to. Make sure you have already been in and spoken to the assistants to let them know what you like.

If you are a man reading this and you always know what to buy and get it right everytime I applaud you!  If you aren’t so fortunate try not to leave it too late, panic will never help you make a good decision.

Good luck and only 33 days to go!

Avert Your Eyes, Miss Kitty Plum is Changing

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

It is more accurate but less titivating to say the blog is changing.  I am going to expand the topics covered to anything lingerie related that take my fancy.  This new found freedom will allow me to blog about more than the happenings at Plums Lingerie, which although fascinating can be sometimes a little uninspiring.

But do not despair the blog will still be focussed on the lingerie passions of Miss Kitty so if you love your lingerie you are still in right place.

Plums Lingerie’s Belgian Adventure

Friday, October 1st, 2010

So I am lying in bed and hear the telephone ringing then the horror hits.  That’s my taxi for the airport!  After a rather hurried start I have made it to Gent in Belgium to visit the head office of Van de Velde who produce Marie Jo and Prima Donna lingerie.  After a lovely dinner meeting some of my fellow lingerie loving boutique owners I gratefully hit the hay.  Day 2 thankfully started at a gentler pace with a leisurely breakfast before getting on the coach to Schellebelle to see the head office.  I never expected the head office to be right in the middle of a village.  In fact there used to be 50 lingerie factories in this little village.  I have no idea where they put them all.

There were presentations by Dirk and Phillipe, International Sales Director and Design Director.  It was fascinating to hear all about the business and how it takes 18 months to get from initial idea to reach Plums Lingerie.  I’ll save all the facts and figures for another posting but it is remarkable how much time, effort and love goes into these pieces.

Lunch was a very civilised affair with a lovely buffest and plenty of champers,  I think if we had been in the UK is may have been some cheese sandwiches and a cup of tea.

The final part of the day was a tour of the factory and the distribution centre. Again I could go on about this for ages, from the inspection of every piece of fabric and lace by hand, to the hand cutting and double inspection process it’s no wonder it’s one of the top manufacturers of luxury lingerie in the world.  In the UK it is easy to forget how huge this company is because we don’t see it in many places or advertised but on mainland Europe it is everywhere.

This trip really cemented my belief that our customers at Plums Lingerie are getting the best we can provide when they buy from us.

Marie Jo and Prima Donna are made with love by Van de Velde and provided to you with love by Plums Lingerie.
