Show Off Your Shapewear

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

I adore my lingerie, pretty, frilly, lacy, satins and silks and it has been known that I may give a quick flash when out an about advertising purposes.  However there are some pieces that should never never been seen by another….. Those miracle working beige foundation items that help smooth and shape enabling you to slip in to a slinky gown, effortlessly avoiding any lumps and bumps.

Shapewear is a lingerie drawer staple whether you are a size 8 or 18 there is always some dress or outfit that will require their smoothing properties but they are hardly glamorous and certainly not something you will feel sexy in while disrobing in front of your other half.  So why is it that we tend to buy shapewear in black or nude?  The irony is that shapewear occasions are often those when we want to feel most alluring, not like a beige sausage. Missed #Lingeriechat – Vintage Lingerie Chat Catch Up

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Today saw the inaugural #lingeriechat, it was great to see so many join us to talk about vintage lingerie. So for all those who attended a those who want to know what we all chatted about here is a summary of what we got up to.

Treacle @lingerie_addict defined vintage lingerie as lingerie produced before the 1980s and new but vintage style lingerie is retro

Question 1. What’s the reason for the surge in popularity in vintage lingerie?

Treacle  @lingerie_addict believes that the increased popularity has a lot to do with the re-emergence of burlesque, pinup girls and the TV show Mad Men. And much to the disappointment of Rachel @le_ rat no one could see the bullet bra silhouettes ever becoming mainstream again. Not only are modern clothes not designed for that silhouette, pointed boobs would probably cause quite a stir in the office.

Treacle @lingerie_addict pointed out that when playing vintage lingerie the sizes differ so much you have to rely on measurements. The measurements you need to take are bust, under bust, waist and hips and a good vintage door should be to help you with your sizing. To get started with an vintage lingerie you need a bullet bra, garter belt (suspender belt), girdle, petticoat and stockings.

Question 2. How often do you wear vintage lingerie?

It was pretty unanimous with the attendees of #lingeriechat that vintage lingerie was assigned special occasion status. This is due to it being restrictive and a bit too show stopping for everyday wear. idearella @gplingerie @piperewan talked about using vintage slips which can be worn easily and layered with contemporary clothes.

Question 3. Who are your vintage lingerie inspirations?

Tempest Storm, Bettie Page, Rita Hayworth, Dita Von Teese, Catherine D’Lish

This covers only a fraction of the chat but if you want all the good stuff you need to come along and see us on Sundays for #lingeriechat at 10am PST 1pm EST and 6pm GST.  Next week the topic is lingerie for curvy girls.

There were loads of resources for Vintage Lingerie suggested. I hope I captured them all but if I missed any or you can think of any more please just add them to the comments.
